Every charge, on one page

Brokerage is only part of what you pay. STT, exchange transaction charges, GST, SEBI fees and stamp duty are statutory — every broker charges them identically. Only the brokerage row is Zerodha's to set.

What flat ₹20 is actually worth to you

Percentage-based brokerage scales with your trade size; flat ₹20 doesn't. Move the sliders to see the brokerage-only difference on intraday trades over a year. Statutory charges are excluded — they're the same at every broker.

Illustration only, not a promise of savings. Compares brokerage alone: Zerodha at 0.03% capped at ₹20 per executed order, versus a flat percentage you set. STT, exchange transaction charges, GST, SEBI fees, stamp duty, DP charges and AMC are excluded and apply either way. Your real cost depends on your order pattern.

Why people switch

The four reasons that come up every time

Pricing that doesn't move

₹0 on delivery and direct mutual funds, flat ₹20 on intraday and F&O. No hidden charges, no percentage creep as your portfolio grows.

No spam, no gamification

Zerodha's stated policy: no gimmicks, no "gamification", no push notifications nagging you to trade. Features like Nudge and Kill Switch actively slow you down instead.

The platform is the product

No relationship manager calling with tips. No stock recommendations. The apps are the whole offering, and they're built in-house.

An ecosystem, not an app

Investments in 30+ fintech startups mean options, thematic baskets, research and insurance plug into the same account.

The Zerodha universe

Before you sign up

Is account opening really free?
Yes, for individual, minor and online HUF accounts. NRI, corporate, LLP and partnership accounts cost ₹500. There's also no AMC in the first year on new resident individual accounts.
So how does a zero-brokerage broker make money?
Intraday and F&O brokerage (₹20 flat), margin funding interest, DP charges when you sell, annual maintenance from the second year, and paid add-ons like Kite Connect. Delivery and direct mutual funds genuinely are ₹0 — the cost sits elsewhere in the ledger, and it's all published.
What will I actually pay from year two?
Demat AMC, billed quarterly:
  • BSDA account, holdings under ₹4 lakh — free
  • BSDA, ₹4–10 lakh — ₹100/year + 18% GST
  • Non-BSDA — ₹300/year + 18% GST regardless of holdings
BSDA applies automatically if you hold one demat account per PAN with up to ₹10 lakh in it.
What documents do I need?
PAN, Aadhaar linked to your mobile number for OTP, and a bank account in your own name. A cancelled cheque or bank statement is only needed if UPI verification fails. Income proof is required solely for F&O.
Can I move an existing demat account across?
Yes. Zerodha reimburses transfer costs up to ₹500 when you move holdings from another broker.
Is Zerodha safe?
Zerodha Broking Ltd. is a SEBI-registered stockbroker (INZ000031633) and a member of NSE, BSE, MCX and MSEI, with depository services through CDSL (IN-DP-431-2019). Your securities sit in your own demat account with the depository, not with the broker. That said, regulatory registration protects custody, not your returns — market losses are entirely yours.
What's the catch?
There's no relationship manager, no phone support desk that picks up instantly, and no stock tips — support runs through tickets. If you want someone to call you with recommendations, a full-service broker is a better fit and will charge you accordingly. Also worth knowing: orders placed while your account is in debit balance cost ₹40 rather than ₹20, and call-and-trade orders are ₹50 each.
